Pre Classic Women’s 100m to rematch the Paris Olympic Games Women’s 100m podium
The 50th edition of The Prefontaine Classic continues to add to its world-class fields with the addition of “The World’s Fastest Women” Julien Alfred.
Alfred made history last summer, becoming the first Saint Lucian to ever win an Olympic medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Her 10.72-second run to secure Olympic gold was a personal best in the 100m and set a new national record in the event for Saint Lucia. Alfred also owns national records in the 60m (6.94 seconds), 200m (21.86 seconds), 200m short track (22.01 seconds), 300m (36.05 seconds), and 400m short track (52.97 seconds).
Alfred came back from her gold medal performance in the women’s 100m to claim silver in the women’s 200m at the Paris Games just three days later, running 22.08 seconds to earn her and Saint Lucia’s second-ever Olympic medal. Alfred closed out her 2024 season with a Diamond Trophy, running 10.88 seconds in the Wanda Diamond League Final women’s 100m.
Also in Alfred’s medal cabinet is a 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships gold medal from the women’s 60m and seven individual NCAA titles spanning from the 60m to 200m short track. As a collegiate athlete at the University of Texas, Julien won three individual NCAA titles, including the 2022 Women’s 100m championship which was contested at Hayward Field.Alfred toes the line against the previously-announced reigning Olympic women’s 100m silver medalist Sha’Carri Richardson and reigning Olympic women’s 100m bronze medalist Melissa Jefferson-Wooden. This is the first time the Paris W 100m podium will face each other since the Olympic Games.
