Sha’Carri Richardson Adds To Sprint Sizzle At 2026 Prefontaine Classic

Olympic Medalist & World Champion Holds 6th Fastest Time in Women’s 100m History

Sha'Carri Richardson will compete in the Women's 100m at the 2026 Prefontaine Classic.

The Women’s 100m race at the 2026 Prefontaine Classic just got faster. Sha'Carri Richardson (Dallas, Texas) will join the previously announced Melissa Jefferson-Wooden in a matchup of the past two Pre Classic champions in the event. Sha’Carri ran 10.83 to win in 2024, while Melissa posted a 10.75 last year. The Prefontaine Classic and Hayward Field at the University of Oregon record is 10.54, set by Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah in 2021.

Richardson is a double Olympic medalist from the Paris Games with a gold as a member of Team USA’s Women’s 4x100m relay team and an individual silver in the 100m. In 2023, at the World Championships in Budapest, she won the 100m, was part of the winning 4x100m relay team, and finished third in the Women’s 200m. At Hayward Field, Richardson won back-to-back national championships in the 100m in 2023 and 2024. Her win at the 2023 USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships was done with a time of 10.71, the fourth fastest in Hayward Field history. Running for the Louisiana State Tigers, Sha’Carri won the 2019 NCAA Championship in the 100m. Her 10.75 mark in that race still stands as the NCAA record and American U20 record.

The Prefontaine Classic will take place on Friday, July 3rd, and Saturday, July 4th, 2026.

A Diamond Discipline, the Women’s 100m, is scheduled for Saturday, July 4th.
