What happens when a meet assembles the world’s best athletes for five hours of non-stop action? History gets made.

The 50th edition of The Prefontaine Classic has etched its name into the World Athletics history books, recording the highest competition performance score for a single day meeting ever: 98,121 points.

The only invitational meeting to ever score higher was the 2023 Prefontaine Classic, which was a two-day meet that served as that year’s Wanda Diamond League Final.

Competition performance scores are determined by the performances of that meeting’s athletes. The faster, higher, and farther the mark, the better the score.

This year’s Prefontaine Classic by the numbers:

  • 12,606 ticketed spectators

  • Over 500 volunteers and workforce

  • Nearly 300 athletes

  • 8 world-leading marks

  • 7 meeting records

  • 2 world records

  • 1 sold-out show

Some might even say there was a bit of magic in the air.
